Born in Tokyo. He is a picture-book author and designer. He has created over 200 picture books to date, including Gotogoto Gotton (Kōdansha) , Happy Halloween! (Kōdansha) , Tree‑san (Kōdansha) 
, Reizōko (Kaisei-sha), Iroiro Bā (Ehon-no-Mori), Shiro to Kuro (Iwasaki Shoten), Kiteru no Dāre? (Kumon Publishing), How Popori the Monster Overcame Anger (PIE International) and many others.
In addition to picture books, he also works on character design for television programs and toys. In 2026 he marks the 20th anniversary of his debut as a picture‐book author.
